Based on the Exodus book of the expatriation of the Hebrews under the guidance of Moses to the Promised Land, Moses and the ten plagues of Egypt listed more specifically the series of wounds that touched Egypt: water to blood, frogs, mosquitoes, flies, death of herds, boils, hail, grasshoppers, darkness, and the death of the first-born. In the form of a symphonic poem, Marc-Antoine work musically describes these ten plagues with evocative textures and rhythms, demonstrating a great search of tone in the percussions of the Wind Ensemble. We also find in the work of the young composer strong dynamics, complex harmonies and melodies to the sought-after modes.
